Ellwood Park, Baltimore

Ellwood Park is a neighborhood in the eastern part of Baltimore, Maryland. It is named for a small public park with a playground between Jefferson and Orleans Streets. The neighborhood extends from Ellwood Avenue to Highland Avenue, between Monument Street and Fayette Street. It is contained within the 21224 zip code.

Architecturally, Ellwood Park is made up of rowhouses constructed in the early 20th century. Most have front porches and the white marble steps. It is a community of mostly middle class to low-income homeowners. Neighborhood groups include the Ellwood Park Improvement Association and North Highlandtown Community Association.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,505 people residing in the neighborhood. The racial makeup of Ellwood Park was 17.3% White, 78.5% African American, 0.7% Native American, 1.6% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.9% of the population. 61.6% of housing units were owner-occuped. 20.6% of housing units were vacant.
